The Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, Mr. Dick Roche, T.D. officially launched the Lifesteps guides and website on Monday 3rd of October, in the Custom House in Dublin.

Speaking at the launch the Minister said "this initiative demonstrates once again the public library service's commitment to helping the community overcome social exclusion in all its forms." The Minister went on to say that, "in the fast moving world of ICT, it is undoubtedly difficult for competent Internet users to appreciate that there are still very many people who are unaware of the volume of relevant information available online, or the ease with which this can be accessed. For many, the Internet is seen as something irrelevant. We can be intimidated because we are not familiar with the technical jargon or 'cyber-speak' that we believe is necessary to successfully negotiate this virtual terrain. By using specific examples," the Minister continued, "the guides explain, in jargon-free language, how to use the numerous websites referred to."
